Microsoft’s recent digital civility index reveals concerning statistics for Ireland’s online safety
A recent digital civility index released by Microsoft indicates how ‘civil’ people are behaving online. According to an article by the Irish Times, the UK is ranked number 1 on the digital index, while Ireland is placed 12th out of 25 countries accounted for. The index shows that Ireland ranks lower than countries such as Malaysia, USA, Canada and France when it comes to online safety.
The index discusses online attacks of teens and adults, with two thirds of teens reporting online abuse. Shockingly, over half of these teenagers met their online attacker in real life.
